Future-Focused Facilities at Cromwell Memorial Park

SPL is proud to support the transformation of Cromwell Memorial Park, part of the major redevelopment replacing the town’s 60-year-old hall with the new Cromwell Memorial Hall, Museum and Events Centre. Overlooking the spectacular Lake Dunstan, the centre has been designed by SA Studio and Jasmax to complement the rugged beauty of Central Otago while serving as a vital hub for events, remembrance, and community connection. Inside, the new facility will feature a 400-seat auditorium, a museum linked to the Old Cromwell Town and Heritage Precinct, a 40-seat cinema, and multi-use spaces—all designed with flexibility and longevity in mind.

As part of the project, SPL supplied key commercial bathroom technology to support the building’s high-use public amenities. This includes our efficient, low-energy Dri Bubble hand dryers, ideal for busy public bathrooms, and durable stainless steel baby change tables that enhance safety and hygiene for family facilities. These additions reflect the project’s commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and user comfort. With cultural narratives woven throughout—thanks to collaboration with mana whenua via Aukaha—the new centre is not just a building, but a statement of care for the community, past and present.

Sustainable Green Build Solutions for Kiwi Architects

In the realm of sustainable architecture, every aspect of design holds the potential to make a significant environmental impact. Even seemingly small choices, like hand drying methods in restroom facilities, can play a crucial role in promoting sustainability. For architects in New Zealand, the decision between hand dryers and paper towels carries both environmental and financial implications, with hand dryers emerging as a clear frontrunner.

From an environmental standpoint, hand dryers offer substantial advantages over paper towels, particularly when paired with New Zealand’s abundant renewable energy sources. Whereas paper towels contribute to deforestation and waste accumulation.

Paired with our abundant renewable energy resources in Aotearoa, hand dryers become an inherently eco-friendly choice, minimising carbon emissions and resource depletion.

Hand dryers offer long-term financial benefits too, and while initial installation costs may be marginally higher than paper towel dispensers, hand dryers boast minimal maintenance requirements and lower operational expenses over their lifespan.

In essence, the decision to opt for hand dryers over paper towels aligns with the principles of sustainable architecture and reflects New Zealand’s commitment to environmentally conscious design choices.

Owairoa School has undergone a remarkable $13 million redevelopment, focusing on improved connectivity and top-notch teaching spaces.
